Many of you have been waiting to hear what is happening for us in our adoption process, so let me tell you!! We are ready to announce our news, we had to keep it quiet for a while, but with it being so close I had to let you know what has been going on!
Early last year we began working on the adoption process as you know, through our domestic adoption agency in Kansas City, we are on the wait list for an infant through a birth mom. With much hope that we might be chosen quickly, that didn’t happen. We waited, and waited, and waited some more…Nothing. We kept relying on God to lead us in where ever he wanted us to go with our adoption process. After all, it was Him who lead us down this adoption journey in the first place. Praying, waiting, and praying some more. Then to our surprise, our complete surprise, we met a couple who Roger worked with that adopted their two adorable little boys from Uganda, Africa. They told us about their adoption process and how they did an independent adoption. We were half way there with having a home study already completed and approved! So we researched, prayed about it, researched some more, and we were completely and totally drawn to adopting from Uganda through an independent adoption. God totally swept us off our feet and lead us to Uganda. We couldn’t believe it!
We started the paperwork process to adopt from Uganda, hired a Ugandan lawyer, got the right connections through our friends, and proceeded with adopting in Uganda. A few months later, we got a referral for a little boy! He is 2 1/2 years old and quite handsome I must say. We are in love. We feel in love the second we saw our son’s face in that picture for the first time. Aiden is a big brother, and he couldn’t be more excited!
We have completed everything we need to complete here in the U.S. (after many months) and all that is left is to go get him, and go to court in Uganda to officially adopt him. We received word of our court date the other day, and court is on Oct.25th!! There is still quite the process ahead of us once we arrive in Uganda so please pray for us in that this adoption process will go smoothly, quickly, and that we get a positive court ruling in Uganda. The estimated time I will be in Uganda is approx. 4-6 weeks, but we will not know for sure until I’m there. There are a lot of factors that play in to how long the process takes once you’re there. So any and all prayers you can lift up for us would be more than appreciated!!
As you already know, adoption is quite expensive, and we haven’t quite reached our goal, so if you would like to donate or help in any way, we won’t argue with that! 😉
We have named him Lucas (Luke). His name was picked out by my mom, who recently passed away, and we love that name and the involvement she can still be in our adoption process. One of the last things she did was take up a collection of baby clothes for the kids in the orphanage. She was involved in our adoption process every step of the way and I know that she is right there with us as we go through this process. I love that we can honor her in this way by naming our new son Lucas. His face completely fits the name too!! It was very much meant to be his name. 🙂
I created a slideshow of our announcement, if you look on the post below and click on the link.
We are expecting…from Africa!!!
